Introducing the very gorgeous Murphy – Can you help him find his forever home?
I first met Murphy about barely a week after finding my last foster-train-rehome doggie, Kahn, his wonderful forever home.
Murphy’s story was not unlike many other homeless dogs. He was rescued from the pound through a foster group, however seven months into being fostered by several different carers as well as being returned from two failed adoptions, his time was running out. His behaviour was unable to be controlled by his carers and unfortunately an untrained large dog has little hope at finding a suitable forever home, so, at their witts end, his foster group was about to have to have him put to sleep.
4 weeks later, Murphy is now the image of perfect behaviour. He has been coming to work with me and learning all a doggie needs to learn about going for walks on a loose leash, being off leash down the beach and coming back when you’re called, behaving lovely around other dogs, and meeting people politely.
Murphy surprised even I on how fast he learns things, both unwanted and wanted behaviours. If he is around a naughty dog unsupervised, he will start to behave like that dog very quickly, but at the same time he picks up good behaviours from dogs equally fast!
The first time I took him on leash, he twisted my knee and nearly dragged me off my feet several times with how ridiculously strong he was every time he saw a dog or a person or somewhere he wanted to go. Yet by the end of our session together he swiftly picked up the whole no pulling thing, and now we can walk everywhere on leash or off leash and no matter the distraction, he remains perfectly in control.
He is absolutely amazing off the leash now, we can go for a big walk down the beach past all the dogs and he pretty much just walks next to me like he’s on the leash the whole time (I must say, kind of makes you feel pretty cool hanging out with such a big dog being so well behaved!)
When he does meet a dog, he’s learned to be very gentle, and is able to be recalled at any moment, so none of that annoying rushing off out of control to see every dog in sight!
What can I say, I can’t rave about him enough because he really is so cool, and now he needs to find his forever home. His new home will have all my support after his adoption to make sure he stays on the right track, but I know he’s going to be such a good dog for his family.
Here’s what Leesa Hodgson had to say about Murphy…
“Murphy had been in foster care with Pet Warriors for approximately 7 months after initially being rescued from death row at a local pound.
Due to many behavioural issues that were also exasperated by his large size, Murphy
passed through several foster homes & two failed adoptions in his time with us.
Everyone loved misunderstood Murphy & our carers did their best to manage him as best they could,
but our hopes for him were growing dim, with limited time & resources, it was not fair to continually move Murphy around from home to home & without the offer of help from Melissa at Clever Paws Murphy’s only other option was to be put to sleep.
Within just four weeks, Melissa has turned Murphy’s life around & we are so very grateful & relieved.
We are overjoyed at Murphy’s outcome & his success only proves the effectiveness & value of Melissa’s training techniques.

If you know of anyone looking for a dog, perhaps you could forward this link to them; by rescuing Murphy, not only does he find his happy ending, a new dog will be saved from being euthanised for behavioural problems, trained, re homed, and so the cycle continues.
As with Kahn, Murphy’s entire adoption fee will be donated back to the group he was first rescued through, in this case Fraser Coast Pet Warriors, so his adoption will help even more poor homeless animals 🙂
He is vaccinated, desexed, microchipped. We believe he is an Anatolian Shepherd X, approximately 10-12 months old.
